The most underrated awesome things in life

Life is super, it is packed full of some pretty neat things and experiences but there are just somethings that are absolutely incredible but we often overlook, here is my list of a few of the most amazing experiences that are totally underrated.

New Socks

Seriously is there a better feeling that wearing new socks. I have often dreamt (on an almost daily basis as I put on my socks) of the day when I have a brand new pair everyday. Its almost unfavothamable just how euphoric I would be. Its the simple things in life.

Pineapple Juice

Probably the most underrated juice. An ice cold PJ is my favorite drink on the entire planet, so good that I try not to have it too often so as not to overdo it and ruin it forever.

Swimming in the rain

Rain is often a deterrent for jumping in the pool or the ocean but by golly it is fun. A nice calm day with no wind in a huge down pour…. FANTASTIC.

Stationary shopping

Is there a more enjoyable shopping experience than getting fresh pens, pencils and writing books. I go through so many notebooks and each time it is always a joy to pick out a new one.

Jar popping sound

That sound that jars make when you open the lid for the first time and it makes that popping sound, its often overlooked but it makes a pretty rhythmic pop.

Ice cold shower

The actual experience of having a cold shower is horrendous but the feeling the moment you turn the taps to warmth is worth the chillyness.

New toothbrush

Like new socks I would love to have a new toothbrush each day (I wonder if there is a use for old toothbrushes and socks). They give a better clean and its always nice after using a worn out brush.

Stretching

Its impossible not to feel awesome after a good stretching session. Can be a tad painful during the stretching but the after feeling is just pure goodness.

Well thats enough ramblings of a mad man for one evening. rh

Things I cannot live without

In my life there are a few select things that I just cant go without.

iPod Classic

I am not a huge fan of iPhones/iPod Touch etc (touch screens are not the most effective way to do something in my opinion) but iPod Classics are probably the best thing ever. Having thousands of songs at my disposal where ever I go is amazing. I try to carry my iPod with me wherever I go, literally if I walk to the kitchen I will put on a song for the 10m walk from my bedroom.

Apple iPod Classic 120 GB (6th Generation)

Bose Headphones

These noise cancelling headphones are utter perfection, they have the best sound quality of anything I have ever heard. At first, honestly, I didn’t really like them too much, the noise cancelling part was kind of annoying but it wasn’t long before I got use to them and realised just how good they sound and now I can’t get enough of them. After using the Bose headphones for a while it is painful to go back to normal Apple headphones as the quality is so dramatically different it would blow your mind. There are musical parts in certain songs that are so epic but you can’t even hear them on normal headphones, its crazy.

Trainers

With trainers you are always ready for anything, you can run, cycle, rock climb, what ever and all the time you are in constant cushiony comfort. I am currently rocking Nike Lunar Glides, maybe the best shoes I have ever owned, they are so ridiculously comfy and good for sports that its hard to imagine wearing anything else. I wear trainers everywhere, in fact I cannot even remember the last time my shoes were not trainers (maybe it was wearing ski boots last year).

Nike Lunarglide+ 3

White Boss t-shirts

These t-shirts are super comfy and just plain amazing. I have about 6 white Boss T’s and where them all the time, although last week my wonderful mother got me a black version which I must say its rather awesome as well.

Oakley Jawbone sunglasses

I do loads of cycling and Oakley make the best cycling sunglasses and the best sunnies they make are the Oakley Jawbones, the glasses Lance Armstrong wore in the Tour de France. I have the Livestrong yellow and black version, they look a bit crazy but they are amazing for cycling and for covering the whole eye and have vents so keep your face cool, I wear them everywhere along with my white t-shirts and trainers.

Computer/Internet

The internet is the most useful and innovative thing that has ever been invented. Its so useful for finding information and communicating with people. Brilliant.

Notepad and Pen

I try and carry a notepad with me wherever I go, its so annoying to think up something then to forget it later. I am always trying to think up business ideas or things to fix on my websites or making a shopping list. I use them so much I am quite often having to buy a replacement as old ones fill up. I try to write everything down even if it is a stupid idea, you never know, it might come in handy later. I think I started carrying a notepad after I read that Richard Branson always carries one, I think Eminem also uses a lot of notebooks.

Here is a cool quote from Aristotle Onassis

“Always carry a notebook. Write everything down. When you have an idea, write it down. When you meet someone new, write down everything you know about them. That way you will know how much time they are worth. When you hear something interesting, write it down. Writing it down will make you act upon it. If you don’t write it down you will forget it. THAT is a million dollar lesson they don’t teach you in business school!”

Another quote, although I am not sure of the exact wording or who said it is

“The faintest ink is better than the best memory”

Special K

I am addicted to Special K, it is by far the best cereal in the entire World. I have several bowls each day, usually for breakfast and an evening snack. Its high in Protein, one of the healthiest cereals and absolutely delicious. I have been collecting the empty boxes I have consumed over about the last 6 months and currently have about 50 along with about 20 Mini Wheat boxes and a few boxes of oats and Wheat Bix.

Things I can go without

TV

I love TV, maybe a year ago it would have been in the list above but now it is not as important, sure I like watching the odd show and I looooove watching a good dvd TV series (Current obsession is Mad Men) but I can watch dvd’s on my computer and even get shows online now with far less adverts and annoying interuptions. I am a TV advertisers worst nightmare, the second, I mean literally the second a commercial hits the screen I have already changed the channel and will flick around for the next 3 mins and return to my show when the ads are done. Its almost like I have a sixth sense for knowing when the ad break is over, its always exciting when you time it perfectly just as the ads are finishing.

By always skimming whats on I often end up watching 3 or 4 shows at the same time which is fine but you don’t get the same cinematic experience as just watching a DVD so I am a regular at the video store.

The constant jumping through different tv signals beaming into my television drives my mother insane so I recently discovered muting the ads and doing a few minutes of chilling or a bit or work is almost as good as channel surfing. Actually thinking about it, I could go without TV, just as long as I have good internet.

Mushrooms and Avocados

What disgusting vegetables, the texture, the taste… yuck. I am sure I can get the vitamins and minerals they offer from other sources. Is an avocado even a vegetable? I think it is actually a fruit.

Guacamole Portobello Mushroom
(I can barley look at this mushroom avocado stack)

Jeans

Trousers are just annoying, especially jeans. I could quite happily go the year without wearing trousers (living in tropical Australia helps), jeans restrict movement, they are annoying to put on and then if you end up running in them or something you quickly get ridiculously hot.

The News

The news is so negative nowadays, everytime I check it out line there will be something about the World going into depression or a satellite plummeting to Earth, who cares. The stock market has gone through so many ups and downs since, whenever it began. Man made objects have been falling to Earth every week or so for the last 30 years but not once has a person ever been harmed. The thing I most hate about the news is the headlines journalists write to just coax you in but then write about something completely different or irrelevant to the title, seriously frustrating.

Jazz/Opera/Country music

I like all genres of music it seems, except jazz, country and opera. No disrespect to those who write that music, there are some brilliant musicians who do, but I just can’t seem to get into it.

Well that is enough ramblings of a mad man for one day. rh

Music

Music is probably the greatest thing ever. Can’t go 5 mins without my iPod and Bose headphones (the sound quality from those headphones will blow your mind, unbelievably incredible). Currently going through a weird mashup, remix phase, love a bit of remixed goodness, listen to just about all musical genres from classical to heavy metal, rap to dubstep to pop to 90′s techno.
